Coverack, Cornwall
(from Sue Mecklenburgh’s painting…)
Clouded pastels brush the horizon,
Their pinks easing to mauves,
Before curtly darkening to deep turquoise
Upon an agitated, creased sea at high tide;
Moored vessels, foregathered, nestle in a liaison
And in some uncertainty, unable to wrest free,
Caressed by the quay’s comforting arm.
Landmark dwellings stand stubborn beside
This most unique and celebrated of coves,
Yet ravaged by floods and plundered by sea,
There is no disguising Coverack’s ultimate charm…
