THE FOX IN THE GARDEN THIS MORNING...

The Fox, The Sunflower Hearts, The Camembert & The Salad Leaves

The sun’s warm April lockdown heat
Enticed me outside to bask and read
In the garden at the rear of the house;
But the unmistakable
Pungent malodour
Of a fox hovered, its indiscreet
Reeking stench, quite disagreeable...

The cool, shady April lockdown morning
Enticed a glance outside, pre-shower,
Into the garden at the rear of the house;
But the insatiable
Rabid hunger
Of a fox lingered, eyes warning,
Scavenging seeds, its glower inhospitable…

It might have been the spillage of the seed
Which had lured the beast,
Or maybe the Camembert cheese,
Dropped with wilting salad leaves
From the previous evening’s feed:
The stink seducing the noisome fox to feast…

April 19th 2020

A few days ago, I had moved away from the distinct smell of fox urine to relax elsewhere in the garden...

Today I had climbed out of bed angrily because the irritating yapping of a neighbour’s dog was echoing at 6.15 in the morning…

I closed the bedroom window and decided to shower but happened to look out of another upstairs window first, thus spotting the fox feeding below.

I raced downstairs and took some photos…

It’s what I do…
