LURED WEST: A POEM ABOUT A SASHA HARDING PAINTING...

Lured West
(from Sasha Harding’s picture…)

Lured
West into deep, calm water,
The vessel is drawn forth by a favourable
Breeze and a steady tide
By Siren’s lyre, the spoils to be
Secured;
Shoals, schools and seals,
Oblivious to impending slaughter
Seem captivated by her spell, insatiable;
And flying, even the gulls are gullible
To the enchantment and appeal
Of her musical wiles and allure, and thus follow, wide-eyed;
The sea-dog on the prow, keen but haunted, reveals
 With ears blown back like the flowing scarf tails
Of a Great War air-ace, its sheer helplessness of being
Lured…

Sirens would lure sailors to their deaths in mythology…

It really seems like all of the characters in Sasha Harding’s picture, are being lured to disaster, yet willingly, by the goddess’ music…

The image is neat…
